Paint It Forward For Heroes

Organization: Paint It Forward for Heroes

For the past eight years, Paint It Forward for Heroes has painted houses for military veterans. Those who’ve been honored include Albert Villarreal, Jerry Hilton, Charles Steinman and Marvin Fry. This nonprofit was founded by Jake Joosten, owner of A-Plus Custom Painting.

Joosten was born with a severe hearing loss and was never eligible to serve in the military. But because he always respected those who served, he wanted to do something special for veterans.

In 2011, he picked a local veteran and painted the exterior of his house. Three more veterans were chosen during the following years and in December, 2014, Paint It Forward for Heroes became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

Prior to becoming a nonprofit, A-Plus Custom Painting contributed a good portion of the expenses to paint the veterans’ houses along with donations from a few generous businesses, friends and individual donors.

Now that it’s a nonprofit, Paint It Forward welcomes any donation of any kind, said Paula Joosten.
