Counseling One Another: Discerning Between Spiritual & Medical Issues

Have you ever wondered if an issue that you, a family member, or a friend is facing is a spiritual and/or medical issue? If it is a genuine medical issue, you don’t want to treat is like a spiritual problem. Likewise, you don’t want to treat a genuine spiritual issue like it is a medical problem. This 5-part seminar will better equip you to discern between spiritual and medical issues when counseling others.

Friday, January 28th

6:30-7:30pm Session 1: Medications and Biblical Counseling: Have you ever been counseling someone that was taking psychiatric medications and wondered what you were supposed to think about that? This talk will help you have a way to think about psychiatric medications.

7:30-8:00pm Break

8:00-9:00pm Session 2: Sleep and Insomnia: There can be many causes for insomnia; some medical and some spiritual. This talk will discuss both and give you some help with how to approach sleep problems.

Saturday, January 29th

8:30-9:30am Session 3: Counseling Those With A Medical Illness: Often when we know someone with a medical illness we feel helpless and ill-equipped to come alongside them. This talk will show you what you can do with God’s help.

9:30-10:00am Break

10:00-11:00am Session 4: Marijuana and CBD: Many states have now made these chemicals legal, and it is hard to know what to think about them. This talk will focus on the facts and help you with the myths regarding these drugs.

11:30am-12:30pm Session 5: Counseling Those With Depression: When a person is struggling with depression, you will need a strategy for how you will speak truth to them when they are they are stumbling around in the fog of depression.

Speaker: Dr. Dan Dionne is physician specializing in Internal Medicine who has been practicing medicine for 31 years in Spokane, WA. He also is a certified biblical counselor with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC). As a physician he speaks for ACBC on medical issues as they relate to biblical counseling. He also serves as an elder in his home church where he oversees the counseling ministry. He and his wife, Kelli, have been married for 37 years and have three grown children and five grandchildren.
